  • Airbags have been designed to help protect adults in a moderate to severe frontal collision. To do this, the passenger’s front airbag is quite large, and it can inflate with enough force to cause very serious injuries. There are conditions where the automatic shut off feature will not completely insure safety (seat too far forward, small child in a car seat), there could be a need to manually disarm the passeger sode airbag.

    Even though the vehicle may include an advanced front airbag system that automatically turns the passenger’s front airbag off, all manufacturers offer a manual cutoff system for an additional measure of safety. These manual systems are typically activated or deactivated by turning them using the vehicle´s ignition key.

    This rotary switch seamlessly adapts to these systems and reliably actuates the transition between the “on” and “off” states.

  • The Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) monitors the temperature of the coolant that is being pumped around the battery to cool the battery module of EV/PHEVs. If the battery module starts to overheat, the Coolant Temperature Sensor relays a signal to the Battery Management System (BMS).   • The Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor is designed to take the place of one of the cylinder head bolts on a diesel engine. The sensor’s purpose is to measure the cylinder head temperature and to signal the vehicle’s operator if an engine overheats (that is, if an engine over-temperature is taking place). The engine will be in danger of permanent damage if it continues to run at an elevated temperature.

  • The combination of the well-known PT15/PTC15/PS15 control potentiometers with a Detent Control Mechanism (DCM) affords the appliance designer the possibility to solder the potentiometer onto the Control PCB assembly and then, in a second operation, assemble the DCM over it. This removes the need to build Detents into the User front panel of the appliance, simplifying, and significantly reducing the total cost of the solution.

    The detent torque can be modified according to Customer requirements (depending on the input dial’s diameter, etc) as can the number and position of the detents.

  • Thermometrics Discharge Air Temperature Sensor (DAT) is used to measure the temperature of the air that is emitted from a vehicle's air ducts. This temperature reading is fed back to the control module, and the system compares this temperature reading to what the occupant of the vehicle has the temperature set at on the air conditioning system. The control module calculates the temperature delta and automatically adjusts the HVAC system to minimize this temperature difference.

  • The Dual Solar Sensor uses two photo diode cells to measure the intensity of the light that enters into the cabin of the vehicle. It then takes this information and feeds it back to the automatic temperature control (ATC) unit of the vehicle's air conditioning system. The air temperatures of the driver's side and passenger side are then automatically adjusted up or down depending upon the amount of light entering both sides of the vehicle. The sensor is mounted on the IP panel near the vehicle's front window.

  • The E-stat Controller is used in automobile air conditions to prevent the evaporator core from freezing. The NTC probe senses the temperature of the air as it passes through the evaporator core. An electronic control circuit interprets the change in resistance of the thermistor to indicate when the evaporator core is near freezing. The control circuit then provides an output to disengage the compressor clutch, allowing the evaporator core to warm. When the air temperature of the evaporator core warms up, the circuit reactivates the clutch allowing the evaporator to cool.

  • Thermometrics Evaporator Temperature Sensor is used to measure evaporator core temperature. An evaporator cools the refrigerant in the HVAC system. Since the evaporator core operates at temperatures very close to 0°C, it is important to have an accurate and robust thermistor to measure its temperature to prevent the core from freezing. A frozen core could result in costly damage to the evaporator core and diminished HVAC operation, so that the cabin temperature can no longer be controlled.

  • Thermometrics CL Series of Inrush Current Limiting Thermistors consist of a disc thermistor with uninsulated lead-wires, and are used to control inrush current when switching power supplies. The main purpose of limiting inrush current is to prevent components in series with the input to the DC/DC convertor from being damaged. Typically, inrush protection prevents nuisance blowing of fuses or breakers as well as welding of switch contacts.

  • The Thermometrics A-1737 Motor Coil Temperature Sensor is used on a starter generator to provide temperature measurement of the motor coil. Typically mounted on the neutral bar, it detects increases in current that would indicate a failure that could lead to a stall. The sensor can also be used to monitor the motor windings temperature and warn of an over-temperature conditions.

  • In automobile seat applications the seat may be linearly movable, either manually or automatically via electromechanical means, on an associated track assembly. A sensor may provide a signal representative of the linear position of the seat on the track for a variety of purposes, e.g. to control deployment or the force of an air bag, to feedback the motor position of the seat in connection with a seat position memory feature, etc.

    Sealed and featuring a clutch function, different MT models are available according to their fixation means and number of turns allowed. The product can be easily customised to meet customer´s requirements.

    Absolute position is mechanically stored so there is no need of active electronics thus avoiding problems such as memory being lost by current shortages.

  • The MTS360 provides a true breakthrough in contactless sensor technology by combining a through-shaft design with 360º absolute position feedback in an ultra miniature size. The result is the smallest fully featured rotary sensor on the market with reliability up to 25 million cycles.

    The MTS 360 relies on patented Hall effect technology to enable for the first time true non-contacting through-hole shaft sensing using standard SMD features.

    The device offers electrical angles up to 360° with no dead band and linearity as low as ±0.5%. Rated for use at -40ºC to +150ºC, the sensor can operate up to 300 rpms and can be programmed with full scale output with angles shorter than 360 degrees. Output is selectable between Analog, PWM 12 bits or Serial Protocol (SPI) at 14 bits and includes a second output channel to provide a programmable switch signal.   • Designed with the sensor directly mounted onto a PCB, the innovative MTS-360 Sensor/PCB Combo package allows engineers to easily mount a fully featured rotary sensor without first having to design a printed circuit board for the sensor. The result is time-savings and convenience.

  • Thermometrics Oil Temperature Sensor (OTS) monitors the temperature of the engine oil in a vehicle and displays this measurement to the vehicle’s occupants. If a vehicle operates at too high a temperature, the engine can be in danger of damage. The OTS prevents this by allowing the operator to stop the vehicle and switch off the engine if the temperature of the oil gets too high as a result of an over heated engine.

  • Thermometrics Outside Air Temperature Sensor (OAT) measures the temperature outside of a vehicle's passenger compartment. It relays the outside air temperature to the controller of the automatic HVAC system. The controller uses this temperature to help control the interior temperature of the vehicle. The sensor also provides the vehicle occupants with temperature readings from outside the car. This information is particularly useful when driving under near-freezing or freezing conditions. The sensor is usually mounted inside or near the front bumper or in the side mirror.

  • The Thermometrics Pipe Clip Temperature Sensors are designed for industrial HVACR applications with the ability to mount directly to a metallic pipe. They consist of a NTC thermistor on a ceramic/metal shoe assembly seated in a polymer housing with flexible twin cable connections. The housing is fitted with a spring metal clip for pipe attachment.     This detent design not only adds a "click" sensation of position, but also offers enormous savings in both cost and space for any given application.

  • The NovaSensor P1602 Pressure Sensor Die is a piezoresistive pressure sensor offered in a miniature die. When excited with 1 mA constant current, the P1602 produces a millivolt output that is proportional to input pressure. The P1602 is available as an absolute pressure sensor, where the applied pressure is referenced to an internal vauum sealed within the die.   • The Model ST-15 offers engineers an endless rotation version of the popular PT-15 rotary potentiometer. This new 360º version adds endless clockwise (CW or CCW) rotation as a part of the current features of the PT-15s already highly configurable mechanical and electrical specifications. That means a wide variety of off-the-shelf mounting methods, custom ohmic (resistance) values, tight linearity performance, along with the 7 different rotor designs and 15 standard shaft styles.

    This potentiometer offers product designers the flexibility of allowing users full rotational access across the normal stops that have, up to now, limited mechanical rotation. With this design feature, engineers can now design product command features over a 340º range (active electrical travel). For maximum design versatility, the endless rotation feature can be combined upon request with detents to provide users tactile feedback on each setting and selection – with up to 51 unique detent positions. Virtually any appliance rotary feedback requirement can be configured using the PT-15s wide range of standard features.   • Thermometrics Water Temperature Sensor (WTS) monitors the temperature of the coolant that is being pumped around the engine block to cool the engine to notify the driver of the vehicle if the engine starts to overheat. The goal is to relay an over-temperature engine temperature to the driver, so that the vehicle can be stopped and the engine switched off before the heat causes any permanent damage to the engine.
